How are the public restrooms in Thailand?
Q. I am planning a trip to Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Phuket. I am curious about the public restrooms in Thailand. If they are clean, have actual toilets or have toilet paper. The reason I ask is I went on a trip to China and their public restrooms were pretty horrendous. They rarely had actual toilets. They were usually horizontal troughs or urinals built into the ground and you have to squat over a hole that usually had no flushing system, urine all over the floor, an overwhelming nauseating stench, sometimes no stalls or doors and of course, no toilet paper! LOL So I'm curious if Thailand has a better system. TO: byu_cougars12 It's the kind of question I ask when I'm curious about something...

A. You'll find both the same sort of set-up and you'll find clean, modern facilities. It will depend upon where you are when the need arises. If you stay close to the major tourist spots, chances are you'll be OK. And if you end up having to use a more traditional toilet, at least there will be porcelain steps for your feet. You picked the premium tourist locales to visit, so you should be OK. To be on the safe side, you would be wise to carry some toilet paper with you at all times. Thailand is a beautiful country whose natives are the hardiest, most party-hardy people you'll find. I envy you the trip. Need a translator?
